Lith Prints
Lith images give a new take on darkroom prints.
Lith prints are tradition silver gelatin darkroom prints, but with different exposure and development times using a very slow Lith Developer. Only a few silver gelatin papers available today are suitable for Lith printing, and even these vary greatly in their effect.
There is often an increased grain and contrast, but loss of detail. And there is a color tone to these images made on traditional black and white paper. The quality of the bright highlights is dependent on the amount of time the paper is exposed to light, and the shadow is dependent on the amount of time in the developer bath. The latter is the tricky part, as the print is slow to develop but then accelerates quickly, risking a run-away blocking/darkening of the shadows—they need to be pulled out of the developer at just the right time.
